Piera Jolly, founder and editor-in-chief of JollyMom.com, shares her three simple steps for turning a mason jar into a cute and crafty soap pump.

Mason jars have become so popular lately. They are one of my favorite things! And they’re not just for canning anymore. We use them as drinking glasses, vases, décor, and now… a really cute DIY soap pump! Below are 3 simple steps to turn your mason jar into a soap pump that will look gorgeous in your kitchen or bathroom. These also make very cute and appreciated gifts. They are extra special if you use a personalized mason jar available at Personal Creations.

DIY Mason Jar Soap Pump Instructions

Materials:

  • Personalized mason jar from Personal Creations
  • Mason jar lid
  • Soap pump top (you can buy an inexpensive soap pump in your desired color and just use the pump mechanism)
  • Drill with a large diameter bit (or any other tool to create a large hole in the aluminum lid)
  • Glue (suggest something strong like project glue by DAP or Liquid Nails – the glue must dry strong and hold up to use of the pump)

Instructions:

STEP 1: Make a hole in the mason jar lid just big enough to fit (tightly) the pump. It’s recommended to use a drill with a widening bit to create the right size and get a clean hole. If you are going to use a drill, attach the lid to the jar to keep the lid in place as you drill the hole. Make sure to test the fit before proceeding to the next step.

STEP 2: Measure and cut the tube coming off the pump to ensure that it reaches the bottom while still allowing the lid to close. It’s best to check the measurement of this as you are test fitting the pump. Cut the tube at an angle to avoid poor suction.

STEP 3: Squeeze glue into the bottom of the pump and then insert it into the lid hole. Make sure to press the pump all the way into the lid. Use a damp towel or cloth to wipe away any excess glue. Then for safe measure place an extra bead of glue on the bottom of the lid around the pump. Allow to fully dry.

Then fill with your favorite dish or hand soap and screw on the lid. There you have it. You now have a one of a kind soap dispenser! Leave a comment below if you decide to make your own soap dispenser.
