“My kids and I enjoy making Valentine’s Day treats for everyone to enjoy. We also like to have a few treats at home as well and my kids are always the ones who want to make them.
We love this recipe because all I have to do is turn on the oven and my kids do everything else. This is the perfect treat that little hands can make all on their own.
The best part is that mistakes are fine because they can always be fixed or just leave them because the hearts look great as is.”
INGREDIENTS
Pillsbury Crescent Rolls (we have also used Pillsbury Biscuits)
Smuckers Special Recipe Strawberry Preserves
DIRECTIONS
1. Take out 1-2 tubes of Pillsbury Crescent rolls and immediately pop them open. I like to work when they are still cold so they do not get sticky.
2. Using the perforated lines on the dough break apart into 8 pieces (this is the amount in the can we chose. Twist the dough as much as you can and then shape into hearts.
3. Bake in the oven for about 10 minutes at 375 on a non-stick baking sheet. I usually press them down once while they are baking so they stay flat.
4. Use two heaping tablespoons of the strawberry preserves and put them in bowl. Stir and break up any large pieces of fruit with the spoon.
5. Take the hearts out of the oven once they turn slightly brown on top:
6. Make certain to remove the hearts from the baking sheet so they do not continue to cook on the bottom. Shape any hearts that may have not retained that heart shape while baking.
7. Use the spoon and put a small dollop of preserves onto a heart. Spread around similar to pizza sauce while leaving the edges free of preserves.
8. Serve while warm or place in refrigerator to be served later. We prefer them warm and we NEVER have any leftovers.
